My name is Alistair Thomas Aird. I am a family man living in the west coast of Scotland with my fiancée, four children, eight cats and a litter of five kittens!
I graduated in July 2000 with a BEng (Hons) in Aeronautical Engineering (1st class) from the University of Glasgow. I then worked as an Aerodynamicist with BAE Systems Regional Aircraft, and during my time there I also worked with the Communications team. This provided opportunities for me to contribute to the in-house magazine called Airwaves. I carried out interviews and had editorial privileges too. I currently work in Further Education, managing the curriculum area for Aeronautical Engineering, Mathematics and Science.
Working in communications encouraged me to write my first book, Ally McCoist - Portrait of a Hero, published in May 2008, a book that remains popular today. I have also written for a variety of websites, including Sporting Heroes and the online retro football magazine, Football Masters.
I am a lifelong Rangers fan, but I love reading, researching and writing about the game at all levels from across the world. I am lucky enough to have a memory for detail and a love of history and tradition. That combined with first-hand accounts from players and managers past and present I am fortunate to have worked with, gives rise to some unique stories.
Working on 'Wilson on the Wing - The Davie Wilson Story' and 'The Quiet Man Roars - The David Robertson Story', has been beneficial to my health and wellbeing during what has been an unprecedented time for everyone. And my latest tome, 'Hitting the Mark', the autobiography of the iconic Mark Hateley, has provided a further boost too.
With my writing I pride myself on dedication, depth and detail, so I hope you find my books as enthralling, engaging and entertaining as I do when I'm writing them.
Take care and stay safe.
Alistair
