Best known as one of the primary story architects of Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The High Republic initiative, his work in the Star Wars universe spans Marvel comics, bestselling fiction, audio dramas and television, including Tales from Vader’s Castle, Dooku: Jedi Lost and the Emmy-winning Young Jedi Adventures.
Across a career spanning more than three decades, Cavan has written for publishers including Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and IDW, alongside major franchises such as Batman, Doctor Who, Star Trek, Transformers, Pacific Rim, Assassin’s Creed, Vikings, Masters of the Universe and Adventure Time.
His creator-owned work includes the occult espionage thriller Shadow Service, infernal neo-noir Godfather of Hell, deep-sea chiller Dead Seas, the supernatural hospital drama The Ward, nightmare-fuelled graphic novel Sleep Terrors and blood-soaked teen drama Night of the Slashers.
Alongside his writing work, Cavan co-founded Strange Matter Media with George Mann, developing original IP and narrative projects across publishing, games and television. Before becoming a full-time writer, he worked as a magazine editor for Future Publishing and BBC Magazines, where he launched titles including the award-winning BBC Countryfile Magazine.
Cavan lives in the west of England with his family and has a deep love of all things folk — from music to myth — alongside scary movies, lino printing and meticulously painting hordes of tiny monsters. He is also a trustee of the Bristol Folk House, the city’s historic adult education centre.
