I research and publish principally on British political and electoral history between c.1780 and c.1850. My previous publications include considerations of early-19th century Ultra-Toryism, the life and legacy of Sir Robert Peel, and satirical print culture, notably caricatures and graphic satire. I have a particular interest in the history of Nottinghamshire, having taught at the University of Nottingham since 2000. From 2015-2018, I was seconded to Nottingham Castle as their 'Curator of Rebellion', helping to develop their new 'Rebellion Gallery' through in-depth considerations of such episodes as Luddism, the Pentrich Rebellion of 1817, and the Reform Bill Riots of 1831.
