Massimo Fenati was born in Genoa, Italy, but has lived in London, UK, since 1995. After a childhood spent on comics and picture books, Massimo thought that being a cartoonist wouldn't pay the bills and decided to become a product designer instead. But destiny didn't let him get away with it and Massimo saw his new career as a cartoonist start spontaneously, in 2005.
Since then, Massimo's work in the field of illustration has produced a number of books, published in several countries. His first works were series on a couple of penguins named Gus & Waldo. With the animation based on the Gus & Waldo books, he has won the Sub-ti competition at the Venice Film Festival in 2009 and the 'people choice award' at the IRIS Animation Film Festival in Rio de Janeiro and at the Queersicht Film Festival in Berne in 2010. The latest book in the series, Arte Pinguina, has also been featured as an art collection in a number of art galleries across Italy.
Massimo also produces motion graphics for TV programmes for BBC, Channel 4 and Sky and creates editorial illustrations for a number of publications, both in the UK and in Italy. As an amateur but passionate baker, he also marries his passion for food and for illustrations in his popular "foodle" (food+doodle) series, on his Instagram page, and collaborates with lots of international food brands, from the London bakery/café chain Gail's to corporations such as Kellogg's and Bauli.
His latest book is a graphic novel, La Mennulara (The Almond Picker) based on the best-seller by Simonetta Agnello Hornby.
