Roger Stephens
I was born in Jerusalem and after traveling for two years with my parents through post-war Europe, arrived in London, where I have lived ever since.
Before going to university a friend from school and I thumbed our way around the USA for six months, doing everything from carrying cans of film around New York for a TV company to glimpsing Elvis Presley taking a breather, surrounded by screaming girls, at the back door of the Nashville studio were he was doing his first post-army recording sessions.
In 1977 I co-founded a post-punk/new wave group, one of the first to release our records on our own label. I played bass and wrote the words to some of our songs.
I later gained MAs in Playwriting Studies and Urban Regeneration, on the face of it very different areas, but with surprising areas of overlap.
