Sylvia Haskvitz

Sylvia Haskvitz was born in Minneapolis, MN and currently resides in Tucson, AZ.

She first started writing in journals as a child to capture her experiences and share her honesty in a place that felt safe.

She has worked as a certified trainer with the Center for Nonviolent Communication for 22 years. Her first published work was a chapter entitled Enemy Images in Healing Our Planet, Healing Ourselves along with authors like Brian Lipton, the Dalai Lama, and Joan Borysenko. She coauthored the chapter, Conflict Resolution and Understanding of Self: Key Aspects of Nonviolent Communication with Jean Morrison. She combined her passion for Compassionate Communication and Eating and wrote the book, Eat by Choice, Not by Habit. She also has co-written two accompanying e-guidebooks for sale at eatbychoice.net; one to be used with children and one for adults. As one of her clients says: Sylvia cares about what goes into your mouth and what comes out of it. Sylvia offers Eat by Choice workshops focusing on conscious eating as a lens to Nonviolent (Compassionate) Communication. She completed a recent workshop at Esalen Institute in Big Sur, CA. She is currently working on a cookbook, taking her mom's favorite recipes and adapting them to more healthful possibilities. She is working on this project with 3 generations; her mom, herself and her niece who is attending culinary school.
