Masimba Musodza

Masimba Musodza was born in Zimbabwe, but has lived most of his adult life in the United Kingdom, settling in the North-East town of Middlesbrough.

His short fiction has appeared in anthologies and periodicals around the world, and online, such as StoryTime (Sweden), Jungle Jim (South Africa), Omenana (Nigeria), Lolwe (Kenya), Bookends (Jamaica), Mosi-oa-Tunya Literary Review (Zimbabwe) and Manchester Review (United Kingdom). He writes in both English and ChiShona, his native language. Musodza is the author of two novels in ChiShona, the science-fiction MunaHacha Maive Nei?, the horror "Shavi Rechikadzi" and a slipstream/supernatural novella, "Aquilina (kana kuti, Reururo yaHatifari Maforimbo)" and a collection of science-fiction stories, "The Junkyard Rastaman & Other Stories." Musodza was featured in Geoff Ryman's "100 African Writers Of Speculative Fiction" and Culture Trip's "Best Writers From Zimbabwe."

In addition to fiction writing, Musodza writes essays and opinion pieces on a range of topics. He blogs for The Times of Israel. He has participated in panel discussions, such as at The Festival Of The Battle For Ideas in London and the Black Writers Conference in Manchester.

Musodza trained as a screenwriter in Zimbabwe, and worked briefly in the film industry before relocating to the UK. He has written for independent productions, some of which have been broadcast in the UK and elsewhere. He is developing a web series, "Hostile Environment."

When he is not writing, Musodza has made appearances on both stage and screen. He has appeared in the background on TV shows such as Beowulf: Return To The Shieldlands, Vera and Dumping Ground, and also commercials and short films.
