Susan Bird

After finishing a fine arts degree over 35 years ago, Susan began practicing T'ai Chi and Feng Shou Kung Fu finding a deep resonant peace within its practice. During this time, whilst volunteering for a children’s reading charity she became interested in storytelling and again later with her own little ones. She is a self taught guitarist occasionally writing songs to her books. Writing and illustrating honours these talents keeping her connected to the natural world. The Colin and Fran series delight in everyday simplicity, play and nature, the antithesis of a hyper realistic digitalised world.

The MaCat and MacKittens of the MaCat Clan series are inspired by her own cats, the first of which published is Agatha MaCat. Each of the cats owners are creatives in some way, a talent sometimes overlooked and yet deeply significant to retaining one’s inner peace and therefore strength. Susan would like to thank her cats, Jammy Dodger, Suki and Whisky and all living things.

She continues to teach T’ai Chi and Feng Shou, holding a total of nine master grades and has the good fortune to train with her master Howard Gibbon.
