John Morgan

At Harvard, I studied with Robert Lowell and won the Hatch Prize for Lyric Poetry. I earned my M.F.A. at the Iowa Writers Workshop, where I was awarded the Academy of American Poets Prize. I’ve published six books of poetry and a collections of essays. My work has appeared in The New Yorker, Poetry, The American Poetry Review, The New Republic, The Paris Review, and many other magazines. I've won the Discovery Award of the New York Poetry Center, as well as first prize in The Carolina Quarterly poetry contest. In 1976, I moved with my family to Fairbanks to teach creative writing at the University of Alaska. I’m still there. In 2009, I served as the first writer-in-residence at Denali National Park.
