Patsy Lightbown is Distinguished Emeritus Professor of Applied Linguistics at Concordia University, Montreal. For more than thirty years she has studied the teaching and learning of second or foreign languages in classroom settings. She has focused especially on how teachers combine meaning-focused activities that encourage natural language acquisition with form-focused instruction that guides learners to improve the accuracy of their language use as well. Her publications have appeared in all the major language teaching and learning journals. She frequently participates in professional development courses and conferences for teachers in the U.S., Canada, Europe, and Latin America.
