Benjamin Davis

My name is Benjamin Macieo Davis, I was born in Rocky Mount North Carolina on June 26th, 1971. I had been called by my middle name until I became an adult which is when people started calling me Benjamin or Ben. I was always quiet as a child and I always loved to read with poetry being among my favorite reading materials. I started writing poetry at eight years old however, I didn't see it as nothing special, just expressing my feelings through writing but everyone who read what I had written said that I possessed some sort of a gift. I always different from my peers but I could not really explain how exactly. I just knew that I was. As I got older, I started writing for family functions. Things like family reunions, weddings, funerals, birthdays, etc. I met and became friends with a young woman who was the DJ of a local radio station that played gospel and blues music every Saturday and she would let me come in and read my poetry over the air. She also hosted local gospel programs and would ask me if I would open up the programs with a poem or two which I did not mind at all. In 2013, I made the move of my life. I had never lived outside of NC up to that point but that year I moved from NC to AZ. I drove all the way myself and in the same month became a first time published author.
