Janis Mackay

I am a writer living by in the beautiful Scottish Borders. And I am lucky to have a caravan in the Highlands, by the sea. Setting, whether sea, loch or bustling town, inspires a lot of my writing. The Magnus Fin books are especially inspired by selkie legends and the environment in front of me. The Accidental Time Traveller is a dip into history and friendship across the boundaries of time. My latest novel; for adults - On a Northern Shore - is published by Luath Press, and i manage to bring something of the selkie magic in to this book, set in the far north of Scotland. I am a storyteller and blend together traditional storytelling with contemporary themes. I was lucky to win the Kelpies prize in 2009 for my first novel - Magnus Fin and the Ocean Quest. Lucky again to win the Scottish children's Book Awards in 2013 for my novel The Accidental Time Traveller, and delighted this has been made into a musical - performed by BYMT - and also available in French; published as Agatha Black, by Fleurus. I brought out my first novel for adults - The Watchmaker's Wife. This was a long time in the making and is a work of historical fiction based on the life of my grandmother. If you head over to Audible you will find an audio book version too, read by yours truly! I am delighted to have picture books - The Selkie Girl and The Fairy Song, both beautifully illustrated by the talented Ruchi Mhasane and published by Floris..
