This third volume of 'The Prose Works of Sir Gilbert Hay' presents an edition of the second and third articles found in the Hay Manuscript, now National Library of Scotland, Acc. 9253. Article 2 is the 'Buke of the Ordre of Knychthede'; and Article 3 is the 'Buke of the Gouernaunce of Princis' (volume I of this edition treats Gilbert Hay, the Hay Manuscript, and matters of text and language in detail; volume II offers the text of the manuscripts first article, the 'Buke of the Law of Armys'). His only poetic work is 'The Buik of King Alexander the Conquerour', of which a portion, in copy, formerly at Taymouth Castle, now lies in the National Records of Scotland. Another copy, believed to be an earlier version, on which the Taymouth copy is based, can be found at the British Library. The present book is a more accessible version of both, with a detailed textual analysis of the differences.
