John Ensminger is a lawyer specializing in the taxation of financial institutions and products, and in anti-money laundering compliance requirements for financial institutions. Before becoming a lawyer, John studied zoology at the University of California at Berkeley, under, among others, Richard Dawkins, Curt Stern, and Melvin Calvin. He was a member of the 19th expedition of Stanford's research vessel Te Vega to the Galapagos Islands and wrote an article on the solar navigation of intertidal crabs on Tower Island in the Galapagos that was published in the Te Vega Expedition Reports. In addition to his book on service and therapy dogs, he has written a book on police and military dogs, including chapters on various aspects of canine forensics and law. He lives with his wife, Joan, and his therapy dog, Chloe, in Stone Ridge, New York, and Phoenix, Arizona. John and Chloe visit hospitals, nursing homes, schools, libraries, and a cerebral palsy facility.
