Norris Caldwell

Norris Caldwell is a graduate of The University of Mississippi Class `52. He is a retired business owner, a Sunday School teacher and writer. Mr. Caldwell has written two non fiction books, Before Elvis and War and Home. In 2001 War and Home won The Mississippi Department of Social Studies Award of Excellence and books were placed in all High School Libraries in the state.

His newest book, Stranger in the Outfield, answers the question, "Why would the best baseball player in America be playing on an Independent League team in Pierre, South Dakota? Although the book is not autobiographical Mr. Caldwell states:

I was signed out of High School to be the next left fielder for the Ole Miss Rebels. When my knee was shattered in a football game at Vanderbilt so were my dreams of a baseball future. Stanger in the Outfield is not about me but is about a young man who has his sports dream shattered by an experience beyond his control. I am sure there are hundreds of talented young men and women in America that never got to fulfill their dreams of athletic prominence simply because of an unforeseen event in their lives. Such is the story of Walt Burke in my book."

Don Kessinger, six time National League All Star shortstop with the Chicago Cubs wrote the back cover blurb for the book.

Sid Salter, nationally recognized political analyst and radio personality said on his regional radio broadcast: "Stranger in the Outfield would make a better movie than The Natural. It has more plot twists and is not a period piece. It was a thoroughly enjoyable read."

Mr. Caldwell and his wife of over fifty years reside in Tupelo, Mississippi.
