Emily Bunker is a writer, editor, and book designer, and has a BA in anthropology from Stanford University.
She became interested in anesthesia history because of her father, Dr. John P. Bunker. He was the founding chair of the Stanford University Department of Anesthesia – and her writing buddy. She became interested in math when she accidentally discovered she was good at it.
Emily has been editing scientific journal articles, primarily for nonnative English speakers, since 1977. She tutored math and the SAT for fifteen years; that was when she was Pencil Lady. She's a world traveler, and at various times in her life she spoke Turkish, Spanish, and French. Her favorite pastimes include playing the piano (the only one allowed to listen is Jinx, her tolerant tuxedo cat), seeing plays (put on hold during the pandemic), and solving puzzles (any kind will do!). She lives on beautiful Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
