I established a career in journalism before pursuing fiction writing and published my first novel ("Earth, the Musical") in 2009. I called it a blend of science fiction, humor, adventure, romance, and (of course) music. I followed it with a spinoff titled “Googol, the Musical.” My next novel was speculative fiction (“Cerebelland”). Then I turned to writing a novelized “memoir” about someone other than myself based on audio recordings (“But I Digress: Memoiries of a 20th Century Nomad”). I really liked the “ensemble cast” method I used in “Cerebelland” so continued using it with “The Miscellaneous Hours of Sundry Days” and “Leave No Stone Unturned.” I strive to populate my books with smart, wry, and forgivably flawed characters. Each of my books has an underlying theme or “message” that I hope can be appreciated but is unnecessary to the pure enjoyment of reading. I do a lot of research for each book, hoping to inject some interesting details into whatever concept I am imparting. I have written such a small number of books over the years because time was limited when I was employed and doing freelance writing. Now that I am fully retired, I am able to write creatively every day. In addition to novels, I have published a collection of what I would call “quirky” essays (“Refrigerate After Opening”). I also have published nonfiction under my legal name. One is a collection of children’s stories that I wrote for my niece’s two sons (“The Epperson Collection”) and another is “Catelot Castle: A Guide to Fostering Felines for a Happy Kittydom.”
