Scott Brown Ph.D.

Scott M. Brown, PhD, is Professor of Finance at the University of Puerto Rico–Río Piedras and Research Affiliate at the University of Granada, Spain. His research examines how colonial institutions trap communities in poverty, with publications in the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law, Third World Quarterly, and the Journal of Corporate Finance. Current research spans decolonial financial economics, Indigenous wildfire governance, and Caribbean institutional analysis. He is co-author of Nou Pa Bèt: Haiti Unfiltered with Paul R. LaTortue. He also runs Dark Trader 999, a systematic options trading community on Substack and TikTok with over 114,000 followers.
