Paul Grefen

Paul Grefen is a full professor at the School of Industrial Engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology since 2003. He chaired the Information Systems subdepartment from 2006 to 2014. He received his Ph.D. in 1992 from the University of Twente in the field of high-performance database management. From 1992 to 2003, he held assistant and associate professor positions in the Computer Science Department at the University of Twente. He was a visiting researcher at Stanford University in 1994, at IBM Almaden Research Center and Pennsylvania State University in 2019, and at KU Leuven in 2024.

He has worked in a large number of international and national research projects, both as a researcher and as a manager, collaborating with a wide range of academic and industrial organizations. His research interests include digital business transformation, electronic business, service-oriented business design, inter-organizational business process management, and business information system architecture. He has published 14 commercially available books and several hundreds of other publications, mostly at the international level.

Next to his academic position, Paul works since 2020 as a principal architect and thought leader for Eviden Digital Transformation Consulting. He owns the consulting practice G.DBA. He likes building bridges between academia and industry, bringing models and theories to industrial work and practical insights to academic research and teaching.
