Montague Whitsel

Montague Whitsel is an naturalistic mystic, narrative poet and spiritual adventurer rooted and sourced in the landscapes of western Pennsylvania.

He has been writing poetry and stories since he was 11 years old. As a devout thinker, he explores the mystery of life in Earth & Cosmos. He says: "We are each a manifestation of the ever-evolving universe; we are conscious animals--our species being one among hundreds of thousands on the diverse bush of evolved life on this planet. We are spiritual beings who generate our own meaning out of the flux and flow of becoming."

During the 1980's and 1990's he taught at the college and university level as well as teaching spirituality on a private basis. He always encouraged his students to learn a variety of spiritualities; monastic and contemplative traditions as well as Celtic traditions. He still seeks to reclaim the best poetics and touchstones of wisdom from ancient religious and mystical traditions, while being deeply interested in the relationship between science and the art of living. Since the late 1990's, he has become an amateur science enthusiast, becoming fascinated with mathematics along the way, always seeking to understand the impact of science on spirituality.

Mr. Whitsel holds degrees in anthropology (BA), sociology (MA), history (MA), philosophy (BA) and religion (MTS).
