L. Rivlin

L. Rivlin, primarily a scriptwriter, has written short stories, poetry and song lyrics.

She is also an enthusiastic horserider and was inspired to write her novel "The Girl Who Wanted to Fly" by her experiences as a member of the Side Saddle Association. It was through the SSA that she came into contact with women who because of disability resulting from illness, physical trauma or amputation, could not ride astride, or even walk properly but who still did not use this as an excuse to retire into a corner and stick to knitting.

"Every one of them is her own story of heroism," she says. "Every time one of these ladies gets on a horse she is saying that she does not accept the common view of what disability means. In many ways, my novel is a hymn of praise to all of them."
