Robert E. Hoyt

Robert E. Hoyt MD FACP FAMIA is an Internal Medicine physician who is board-certified in Clinical Informatics and an Associate Clinical Professor in Internal Medicine at Virginia Commonwealth University. He became interested in informatics in the early 1990s. in 2007 he published the first edition of Health Informatics: Practical Guide. The seventh edition launched in June 2018 with Dr. William R. Hersh (OHSU) as the co-editor and author of multiple chapters.

In 2019 he launched the first edition of Introduction to Biomedical Data Science with Bob Muenchen as a co-editor and in 2020 they launched Data Preparation and Exploration: Applied to Healthcare Data.

In late 2023 he and David Patrishkoff MS LSSMBB published No Code Data Science which teaches comprehensive data science without the need for programming. Instead, the book uses two open-source software programs.

He is a reviewer for multiple medical, informatics, and artificial intelligence journals. He is a member of the Medical Intelligence Society and faculty for the American Board of Artificial Intelligence in Medicine.
