In The Beginning
I was born on February 28, 1966, in Roswell, New Mexico, and no...I was NOT left there by a UFO. My family moved to Arlington, TX when I was two months old, and that's where I grew up. I had one older brother, Stuart, who was my best friend growing up...even when I didn't think he was.
I grew up like a lot of kids, I suppose. Playing with Lego's, Hot Wheels, and army men. I had friends from the neighborhood, and most of our days were spent outside. One of our favorite things to do was to put on plays for each other. Most of the time, these were silly, goofy things to make the others laugh. They had no beginning or end, really. Just a bunch of slapstick, running into tree, kind of humor. I didn't care. If I made the others laugh, that was enough.
From a very small child, my imagination never shut off. When I was little, mom would come in when I was going to bed, and insist on telling me a story. I hated it at the time, as she had usually been drinking, but it probably planted a seed of storytelling that developed later on. There were a few times one or two of the neighborhood kids would listen to some story I made up as I went along. I had been bitten by the storytelling bug.
I started writing my stories in ninth grade, remembering how much fun I had telling them earlier on. It was much more work to actually write them, and I only wrote a couple of stories before moving on to other things. It was only a few years ago, I again took up writing. By then, there were several stories waiting to be put on paper.
Attack was my first book, although I don't really count that one. Bitter Paradigm is my first real novel, and was available for sale here at Amazon. Crucial Addendum is the sequel, and was also available from Amazon. I completed my third novel, 180 Degrees in 2011, and put it up for sale. It became clear they all needed serious editing, and I HATE doing that. I love the storytelling, but editing my own work is like having my teeth scraped. I have several other stories in the works, but everything has been put on hold.
If I had money, I would hire an editor, and let them work through my stories so I could get back to my love of writing them. But I don't. So the novels I've written, and the dozen or so that are waiting in the wings sit dormant.
My wife is an Administrative Assistant at American Airlines. I have a son and daughter. The son is 23, and is currently under the water, somewhere in the world. He is a Nuclear Technician on a submarine for the Navy. My daughter is 27, and just started Nurse Practitioner school.
In August of last year, my mother in law came to live with us after her husband passed away. The home we were currently living in became too small, so we upsized. (It's my biography, I can invent words if I want to). Shortly after moving into our brand new home that was almost twice as large as the one we left, I found myself unemployed. Since then, I have started work in an entirely different world than anything I have ever done. It has been great so far. A lot of adjustments along the way, but it has been great. With my mother in law, we also gained another dog. He doesn't get along well with our two, and vice-versa. But they're dogs, so they will have to deal with it.
As I have come to learn, God has allowed (or created) circumstances to mold and make me into what He wants me to become. Sometimes willingly, sometimes kicking and screaming, I have tried to follow where He has led. And through the bumps in the road, He is making something wonderful from my journey.
