Karen E. Seiger

Karen Seiger has been going to markets all her life, starting with the farmers markets in southwestern Ohio for crisp fresh corn and ripe red tomatoes. While traveling and living overseas with her family as a child, Ms. Seiger visited food and artisan markets in Rio de Janeiro, Mexico City, San Jose, and other wonderful cities in Latin America.

Upon completing her graduate degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, Ms. Seiger worked for many years in international aid and development in Latin America and Africa. She moved to New York City in 2000 to work for American Express, and later as a business consultant. She also volunteers as a tour guide of the World Trade Center site.

Ms. Seiger lives in the West Village with her husband James, a cat they saved from the streets of Mozambique, and her collection of rescued orchids. She visits markets all over the city every weekend and never misses the Saturday morning farmers market at Abingdon Square.
