Luke Howie

Dr Luke Howie was born in Melbourne, Australia and is a lecturer in the School of Political and Social Inquiry at Monash University, Australia. He is a member of the Global Terrorism Research Centre (GTReC) based at Monash University and a Research Associate in the Australian Homeland Security Research Centre (AHSRC) in Canberra. Terrorism, the Worker and the City is Howie's first book. The profile image is from the book launch for this book held at Melbourne University in the National Centre for Excellence in Islamic Studies. On the right in this photo is the well-know author and commentator Waleed Aly. This launch featured two books, the other is by Dr Ben MacQueen of Monash University with his book titled Political Culture and Conflict Resolution in the Arab Middle East. Howie is also the author of Terror on the Screen released in May 2011.

Howie's research interests extend beyond terrorism. Much of his work explores the social theory of Slavoj Žižek and Donna Haraway and diverse fields like technoculture, alcohol and alcoholism and digital selfhood and culture.
