Jen Cullerton Johnson

Jen Cullerton Johnson is an educator, award-winning author, and environmental literacy advocate passionate about inspiring young people and teachers to read, write, and act for a sustainable future.

With nearly two decades of classroom experience in Chicago Public Schools and as an adjunct writing instructor at Wright College, Jen has dedicated her career to helping students discover their voices through storytelling and environmental exploration. She is the co-founder of Green Literacy, an initiative that bridges the power of books with urgent conversations about our planet, student voice, and community action.

Jen is the author of several celebrated works, including the bestselling children’s book Seeds of Change, about Nobel Peace Prize winner Wangari Maathai, which has been translated into Spanish (Semillas de Cambio). Her upcoming book, The Green Literacy Handbook (Solution Tree, 2025), offers teachers practical strategies, digital tools, and hands-on activities that integrate literacy with environmental awareness and social-emotional learning.
