Tuned with the grand symphony of silence in the forests and poeming soil and water of the rivers, coast, estuaries and Sunderbans, Dr. Gautam Kumar Das loves all things artistic, resonant, romantic, and fantastical.

Dr. Gautam Kumar Das was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in Marine Science from the University of Calcutta for his pioneering research work on tidal sedimentation in the rivers of the Sunderbans. He is well known in the field of environmental assessment, monitoring and modelling of coasts, forests, rivers, estuaries, and the Sunderbans. Moreover, he has worked in the field of social sciences with the perspectives of the Bengal Basin, and his research experience spans over a period of three decades. He has more than two hundred research articles in national and international journals and has published thirty books to his credit.

A notable work on Sunderbans by him is 'Sunderban – Manus O Paribesh' (Sunderbans - Man and Environment) in Bengali. Department of Science and Technology, Government of West Bengal awarded 'Satyendra Puraskar - 2007' to Dr. Gautam Kumar Das for this pioneer work on the perspective of the Sunderbans.
