Mary T. Graffeo

"Humanities for Kindergarten" is the culmination of thirty-six years of teaching experience for its author, Mary T. Graffeo. She has taught for the Nassau County Board of Cooperative Educational Services at a school for special Education students, at a number or public schools on Long Island, N. Y., and was Music Counselor for Friend's Academy Summer Programs in Locust Valley, N. Y. for seven years. Ms. Graffeo has written and taught various curricula, and created, written, and performed children's musical plays and songs wherever she has taught. Her previous book, "Composing With Kindergarten," was published in 2007, and her biography is published in six Marquis' "Who's Whos," and "The World's Who's Who of Women," published by Cambridge University, England.

"I have been teaching with a humanities approach to education for all of my teaching career. As a child-centered course is always the most successful and such fun for the students involved, I wrote "Humanities for Kindergarten: A Multi-Disciplinary Course" for children, with the help of their teachers. Fun creates interest, which translates into learning. This book is a teacher- and classroom-ready approach to educating Kindergarten and/or Special Education students, in a very novel way. As we know, children learn via visual, tactile, kinesthetic, and auditory learning styles, using either the analytical or global hemisphere of their brains. With the use of the humanities, whatever style is needed for a particular child is available to him or her at all times. Therefore, the presence of Art, English Language Arts, Math, Music, Science, and Social Studies inside each creative project, in each lesson, will stimulate a student's interest and desire to learn. Further, I created this book around a child's year, and included fun projects for all of the major seasonal holidays - times in which children are happiest and love to participate and create. Thus, with "Humanities for Kindergarten," a teacher can be sure of working on all of Gardner's multiple intelligences with his or her class, in an exciting, new, interesting, and creative way, with children who are happy and eager to learn!"
