Harry F. Tibbals

H. F. Tibbals is Research Professor in Materials Science at the University of Texas at Arlington. Previously he served for 14 years as the Director of Bioinstrumentation at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, working in the Office of the Dean of Research, the Vice Provost, and Technology Development, advising and supporting design and application of the latest technologies for biomedical research and practice. He serves as a reviewer for the NIH on medical devices and technology, and in advisory and teaching roles for the University of Texas at Dallas, at Arlington, and for the IC3 Institute at the McCombs School of Business at the University of Texas at Austin on biomedical technology. His work includes government contracts and grants for development of research, diagnostic and life support systems, as well as support from Alcon Research Ltd. NASA, and others. He has served as a consultant to Zyvex and other companies, and worked as a systems scientist, project manager, and product line manager for Rockwell International, United Technologies Mostek, Inmos, and Kodak Medical Imaging. He founded Biodigital Technologies, Inc. to develop environmental, medical, and systems instrumentation, working with NEC, Teledyne, Bruker-Franzen, Marathon Energy Systems, Shelby Technologies, STMIcroelectronics, and numerous other clients including SEMATECH, the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences, Sandia Laboratories, and the Texas Department of Transportation. His work contributed to development of many widely used communications, imaging systems, including digital facsimile and cardiology imaging, and led to a number of publications and patents. He is co-author of CRC books on Introduction to Nanoscience and Nanotechnology with G. L. Hornyak and others, His academic career includes a BS in Chemistry and Mathematics from Baylor University; the PhD in Chemistry from the University of Houston, and fellowships, study, research, and teaching at the Universities of Leicester, Glasgow, and Durham, Jordanhill College, and The Open University in the UK, and the University of Texas at Dallas, Arlington, and the University of North Texas. Besides the US, he has worked and studied in Canada, South America, Europe, the Near East, and Japan. He has served on a number of boards for vision research, conservation, economic and environmental sustainability, science and religion, and music. He has been an invited speaker at many international conferences, most recently at the IC4N2011 in Crete, Greece.
