Elma Shaw experienced a coup d’état and a civil war in Liberia that set her on a path to explore and write about issues of peace and justice. Her award-winning novel, Redemption Road, with a foreword by President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, inspired a documentary about women fighters who survived the war (http://www.cultureunplugged.com/play/7242/The-Road-to-Redemption). A long-time champion for women and girls, she recently worked with The What To Expect Foundation as lead writer for Big Belly Business – the Liberian women’s guide to a healthy pregnancy. Elma currently lives in Rwanda with her husband and two children, where she is working on a new book and helping Africa's game changers become authors too.
