I am Professor of Biology on the Staten Island campus of the City University of New York. My research specialty is plant ecology, especially the population biology of the grasses. My students and I have also done research on the coastal beach plant communities of Staten Island. To date, I have authored over 70 peer-reviewed research papers in ecological and botanical journals. I have edited a book (1998) on the "Population Biology of Grasses" (now available in paperback) and co-written a book on the "Ecology and Evolution of the Grass-Endophyte Symbiosis" (2009) with S.H. Faeth. Courses I teach at the College include "Ecology", "Evolution", and "Botany".
My hobbies include guitar playing and song-writing, listening to music, and reading science fiction.
