Dani Byrd is Professor of Linguistics at the University of Southern California, a Research Affiliate of Haskins Laboratories and the former Executive Vice Dean of USC College of Letters, Arts and Sciences. In 2003 she won the R. Bruce Lindsay Award from the Acoustical Society of America for her research in motor control and timing in speech production, and in 2008 was made a Fellow of the Society, cited for her research on the relation of linguistic structures to the temporal realization of speech. With her co-author, Toby Mintz, she enjoys writing for lay audiences and young people being introduced to the scientific study of language.
