Mark Leffert

Mark Leffert is a psychoanalyst who lives and practices in Santa Barbara, California. He was born in 1944 in New York City. He has practiced, taught and written about psychoanalysis for almost forty years. "Contemporary Psychoanalytic Foundations" is his first book. It embodies his ideas about the roles of postmodernism, complexity, and neuroscience in informing thinking about and practicing psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. It is quite independent of any particular theoretical orthodoxy. The book is meant for a wide ranging inter-disciplinary audience, including the academy and is not narrowly aimed at clinicians. It was written to be understandable to anyone with some intellectual background who is interested in these subjects. A second book "The Therapeutic Situation in the 21st Century,"that fully realizes some concepts only introduced in "Contemporary Psychoanalytic foundations, is scheduled for release in September of 2012. It is available for pre-order. In addition to being a psychoanalyst, Dr. Leffert is also a professional sculptor and a photographer. He carved and photographed the sculpture on the cover of the book, "Blind Greek King." It is done in Italian white marble.
