Ronald A Schwarz

Anthropologist, university professor, international development consultant; faculty member at Williams College, Colgate University, Tulane and the Johns Hopkins University. Ten years in Colombia (2 as a Peace Corps Volunteer) and 20 years in Sub-Sahara Africa. Ethnographic research on the Misak (Guambiano) and peasant villages in Colombia; three years as director of an anthropology field school with programs in Colombia and Dahomey (now Benin). Applied research for development projects in Latin America and Africa: agriculture, infrastructure (water, roads) and public health including HIV/AIDS. As Director of Development Solutions for Africa, Ltd. he designed and evaluated projects for the World Bank, UNFPA, UNICEF, USAID, GTZ, JICA and the EU. Major projects included health sector plans for Kenya, Uganda, Yemen and Somalia. Twenty studies using Geographic Information System (GIS) technology.
