Mohammad G. Mohabbat

Mohammad G. Mohabbat was born in 1947 in Afghanistan. He grew up to be one of the top students in his country. At the age of 16, he was selected by his government to come to the US as a foreign exchange student and live with a family for a year while attending school.

Mohammad, a devoted Muslim, was placed with a devoted Christian family in the Bible Belt of American in the heart of Kansas. His lack of understanding of the English language and the culture shock that he received was quickly fading by the love, support, and acceptance of his host family, school staff and the entire community. Mohammad fell in love with America and the Americans.

On his way back to Afghanistan, Mohammad was invited to the White House and received a message from President Johnson telling him to tell the "good" and the "bad" as he had seen in America, when he returned home.

Mohammad became a staunch supporter of America during his university years and beyond which got him in hot water after the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. He endured torture and beatings, and was marked for execution.

Mohammad chronicles his heart wrenching life story and harrowing escape back to US and how he realized his American dream using his engineering skills--until the fateful event of September 11 where his life tumbled with the fall of the Twin Towers.
