Rashida Coleman-Hale

Rashida Coleman-Hale has been drawing ever since she could pick up a pencil and her passions include illustration, textile design, surface pattern design, and fiber arts. Inspired by countless Summers in Japan with her fashion model mother, the Florida-based designer has lived a life brimming with excitement and inspiration.

After attending FIT in New York, she ended up trading the fashion world for design, teaching herself Photoshop and Illustrator and dabbling in freelance graphic design, but she can actually credit motherhood for her segue to fabric design.

In the fifteen years since Rashida Coleman-Hale became a fabric designer, she’s worked with Cloud9 Fabrics, co-founded Cotton + Steel, and has landed at Ruby Star Society where she has been a designer for over 10 years. She has also authored two award winning sewing how-to books, I Love Patchwork and Zakka Style and has just had her third book Zakka Sewn published in 2025.

Rashida’s work is a visual treat, a modern collection of lines and movement in a color spectrum that soothes the soul. Her illustration style tends to be colorful, playful, and graphic. Her work has been featured at Target, Blue Sky Planners, Maisonette, Petite Plume, Flow Magazine, Moda Fabrics, Cloud 9 Fabrics, Renaissance Ribbons, OESD, Meori, Bloom Baby, Winter Water Factory, and Hazel Village.
