John PW Hudson, BMus, MEd, is a Canadian retired educator whose career
spans 44 years; for the first 20 years he was a high school Music, English, and
Business Education teacher, and following his passion for learning about
education, the second half of his career was at the elementary intermediate
level. His teaching using modern methods and his deep understanding
of the scientific, philosophical, historical and political influences on
education brought him to the attention of the Nanshan school district in
Shenzhen China, and through the efforts of philanthropists Margaret and
Joe Li, Hudson and his wife, Deborah were seconded to Shenzhen, China,
where they lived for two years from 2007–2009. Hudson had visitors and
television crews in his classroom almost daily, and gave many speeches
and roundtable discussions while there. Pathways Between Eastern and
Western Education is Hudson’s first book, published in 2009 by Information
Age Publishing, NC. Now retired, Hudson spent a lot of time since 2009
pondering his questions until he began to write in 2016, finishing this year,
2019: ‘Transformative Education for the Second Renaissance,’ which will be released this spring, (also from Information Age Publishing, North Carolina). Hudson still teaches as a supply teacher for the Richmond (British Columbia) School District, and pursues his many hobbies including playing drums, tuba (and occasionally, conducting) in a community band, traveling to far flung places in the world with his wife Debbie, enjoying their lakeside getaway, and of course, playing golf.
