Robert E. Koulish

Robert Koulish was born in N.Y.C and raised in NY/NJ. He received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1996. While in graduate school he joined the Madison Border Support Group which introduced him to the U.S.-Mexico border and convinced him of the merits of moving to Harlingen and then Edinburgh, Texas to work with migrants and refugees. There he worked as a paralegal at Proyecto Libertad and taught at the University of Texas Pan-Am.

Thus began his affinity for social justice through a border/immigration lens. Along the way, Koulish wrote his dissertation about political asylum in a South Texas immigration district, and about 20 academic and law review articles, book chapters and recently several op/eds in the Baltimore Sun.

He spent time in Budapest studying and writing about the Roma; lived in Boston, where he met his beautiful wife, Steph; then Baltimore, where Olivia and Julian were born; and now Delaware, from where he commutes to Philadelphia University as founding Chair and Associate Professor of Law and Society.

Koulish also enjoys new media, community radio, twitter(ing) and blogging Koulflo Memo.
