Steve Hendrix has worked with policy reform and institutional transformation for over 25 years in Latin America, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and Europe. Since September 2009, he has served with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) at USAID/Paraguay. He has over 100 professional journal publications (including Harvard International Review), an award-winning book in Spanish, and newspaper editorials in Spanish and English. He is an attorney in Civil Law (Bolivia, Guatemala) and Common Law (Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and DC) jurisdictions, with corresponding Bar memberships. Earlier in his career, he hosted radio programs in Wisconsin and Britain, did voice-overs for BBC commercials, and assisted Radio Sweden International and Radio Nederlands on their outreach and programming. He is bilingual (Spanish/English) and has appeared on television, radio and internet-based programs in the U.S., Britain, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Paraguay and the Dominican Republic. He participated in National Defense University (NDU) seminars on terrorist prosecution and pursuit. He often lectures at universities and organizations.
Mr. Hendrix has worked with boards and non-profit organizations. Advising the Justice Studies Center of the Americas, he helped quadruple donors. With the Inter-American Institute for Human Rights, he advised on campaign which realized a 57% increase in funding. He helped Episcopalian and Presbyterian congregations raise income 40% leading stewardship campaigns. Mr. Hendrix also has an extensive pro-bono record on behalf of the indigent, with litigation in Latin America up to the Supreme Court and Inter-American Human Rights Commission levels. Selected as a delegate for the Presbyterian Church’s 1982 National Assembly, he helped negotiate policy with the World Council of Churches to address South African Apartheid via financial divestiture. He is married to Julia Roane Hendrix with three children.
