Bill Maughan was born in Pearl River, New York in 1957. He is a product of Irish Catholic family life and Roman Catholic schooling. He served in the Marines in 1978-82 and in the Army in 2004-08, having enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard after the 911 attacks. He served a tour as a Cavalry Scout in Iraq's Al Anbar Province in 2005 and returned to write his first book of short stories, "The Grappling Hook and other stories from the War in Iraq" based on his experiences there.
He holds a BS in Business Administration from Mercy College, an MBA in Economics from New York University and an MA in Theology from the University of Scranton.
He spent his career in a variety of professional financial and accounting positions and lives with his wife Jane in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. He has 4 children from a previous marriage.
