Andrew Graciano

Dr. Andrew Graciano is Professor of Art History at the University of South Carolina’s School of Visual Art and Design. He has published a monograph and several peer-reviewed articles on the English artist Joseph Wright of Derby (1734-1797). Graciano's interest in art/science connections led him to edit and annotate the memoir of Benjamin Wilson (1721-1788), FRS, who was a portrait painter and an electrical scientist, a contemporary of William Hogarth and Benjamin Franklin. In 2015, Graciano published an edited volume called _Exhibiting Outside the Academy, Salon and Biennial, 1775-1999_(Routledge, 2015), which sought to address the history of alternative exhibitions. Most recently, he published _Visualizing the Body in Art, Anatomy and Medicine since 1800: Models and Modeling_ (Routledge, 2019), which combines his interests in the training and education of artists with his fascination with the history of science and medicine. Graciano was also a contributor to the beautiful book _Anatomy: Exploring the Human Body_ (Phaidon, 2019).
