Beth O'Malley

Beth O'Malley was born Mary Ruth Bourbeau on June 22nd outside of Boston, MA.

After spending 10 days in the home for unwed mothers, Beth moved into foster care. Her first foster mother died, and she was placed again. At 5 months she met her adoptive family.

Despite growing up in a happy, loving family Beth O'Malley had an empty feeling inside-- couldn't seem to put a finger on it or shake it.She had trouble with relationships, staying rooted, and struggled with depression.

The in her 30's it hit her.

She was adopted, something she knew, but had no information about her beginnings and never connected this with the empty feeling inside.

By this time Beth had begun her role as an adoption social worker in the inner city of Boston, MA.

Beth reports " that empty feeling could have been filled with just a few basics-- my birth place or a few discussions about my adoption history which would have normalized my experience.

Inspired by her role in adoption, Beth searched out her foster care notes and started to fill in the blanks as well as that empty feeling. A few years later she had her story. Her personal life story. The hows the whys. The questions answered.

She went on to help children and teens in foster care do the same with lifebooks.

" My goal is that a lifebook will help a child or teen get just enough to fill that hole inside. Avoid some of the pain. Take back their life."

Beth and her husband went on to adopt. They live outside of Boston, MA with their 11 year old daughter. Beth recently completed 28 years of social work and now works at home on lifebooks. Her passion.
