Kurt Repanshek

Kurt Repanshek, a journalist for four decades, ventures away from national park guides for his forthcoming book, Rebisoning the West: Restoring An American Icon to the Landscape, from Torrey House Press.

The book chronicles the recovery of bison from near extinction and looks out across the Great Plains to see where more bison herds can be established.

In researching the book, Kurt drove nearly 3,000 miles to walk the grounds where the early 20th century bison recovery program got a boost, and to examine a 21st century landscape conservation effort with a goal of preserving 3.5 million acres, complete with 10,000 bison.
