Venus Jones

Venus Jones is an actress, writer, inspirational speaker and associate professor. She's dedicated her life to helping other artists and activists rise to their highest potential. As a poet, she has been compared to Maya Angelou and endorsed by the Langston Hughes Family Museum.

She earned her MFA in English and Creative Writing from Mills College. Her play “Race and War: An Awkward Conversation” was featured at the Tampa Bay Theatre Festival, and “Poetic Soldier” was awarded “Most Inspiring Solo Performance” at the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival in 2012.

Her work has been published in many journals and anthologies. She's produced four spoken word albums, and three books including: She Rose, Lyrics for Langston, and Kwanzaa: Living on Principle. Her poetry app has been downloaded in 90 countries. Her favorite quote is by Alice Walker: “The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.”
