Lesley Thomas

Lesley Thomas wrote the award-winning novel "Flight of the Goose: A Story of the Far North".

"Flight of the Goose" is set in a remote Indigenous village and the arctic wilds. Thomas grew up there in a multicultural family blending ancient and new traditions. Her deeply-researched realistic depictions of circumpolar shamanism are praised by Alaska Native elders, leading anthropologists of the Arctic, shamanic practitioners including Sandra Ingerman, Shamans Drum Journal and Sacred Hoops Journal, as well as theologians and literary critics.

Her stories have appeared in "The Northern Review journal" and in "Cold Flashes" - an anthology of flash fiction set in Alaska. She has published poetry and nonfiction and taught at colleges and Katchemak Bay Writers conference in Alaska.

As an ecologist, her study of the effects of oil spills on arctic salt marsh and of ornithology came into play in "Flight of the Goose". Thomas also wove in her substantial knowledge of mythology, Indigenous societies, subsistence/wilderness skills and cross-cultural relations.
