Stephanie Caruana

I was born in Manhattan, NYC, in 1934. My father was a dental technician"; i.e., he made false teeth for a dentist. We lived in a high-rise apartment building on Riverside Drive, across the street from Washington Square Park. World War II was looming on the horizon. My sister Anne, 4 years older, ta taught me to read my first word, when I was around 5. The word was "napkin," and she used a box of napkins as a textbook. I caught on fast. At age 6, I had a reading level of a junior high school student, and was written up in the newspaper as a child prodigy.

We moved to Miami Beach, Florida, when I was 12. I attended high school, and won a scholarship to the U. of Miami. I graduated m.c.l., and returned to NYC. I loved to write!

Later, I moved to Hollywood, Ca. I wrote articles for a new feminist magazine, PLAYGIRL.

Eventually, I wrote a political article about JFK, Aristotle Onassis, and Howard Hughes, which

bothered the Mafia so much that they bought Playgirl, fired all of us, and took Playgirl to NYC. I started writing about the Mafia in 1975. My article was call "A Skeleton Key to the Gemstone File". It was circulated worldwide, and I became famous. My enlarged version is "The Gemstone File: A Memoir", on sale through Amazon.com.
