John Charles Doornkamp

John C Doornkamp was born in Holland in 1938 - just in time to experience the occupation for the duration of World War II. In 1946 his parents brought him to England where he lived in Tring, Crewe and then Bury St. Edmunds before going to University in Sheffield.

His training as a geographer eventually took him abroad. Initially he taught at Makerere University (Kampala, Uganda) before returning to the University of Nottingham (as a member of the teaching staff in the Department of Geography).

As a specialist in landslips and flooding his services as a consultant took him to Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bahrain, Dubai, Egypt, and Libya. His academic work took him to South Africa and China.

His special joy, however, has always been family holidays during which he could indulge his passion for photography.

Many of the photographs taken in the USA, Canada, Australasia, Africa and Asia and various countries in Europe now appear in his recent publications - such as the photography books published on Kindle.
