Jack Brandais

Award-winning author Jack Brandais, the Joyride Guru, has been driving on roads around San Diego County since he was a kid, when his parents would take him on Sunday drives. He's actually a third-generation road fan, as his grandmother—a pioneer driving enthusiast—first explored these roads back in the 1920s. They're all great day trips... sometimes a long day trip if you decide to explore.

Since 2000, he's been the award-winning Weekend Driver columnist for San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper's auto section, taking readers on a great road around Southern California and reviewing a new car. Check out his award-winning website at http://www.joyride.guru/

Now he's out with a new series of books just for Kindle, each an individual day trip around San Diego County and Southern California. Go from the coast to the desert, to the mountains and in-between on the best scenic road. Jack talks about the journey: the road, what you'll see and can do on the way. If it's a twisting road for your sports or classic car, or a dirt road for some 4x4 or all-wheel-drive fun, he's got a road trip for you. And even if you have a nondescript subcompact or minivan, he'll let you know if the drive is good for you.

His popular Weekend Driver San Diego was published in 2003 (you still find copies here) was a collection of early columns from the newspaper.
