Michael A. Schuler

Michael A. Schuler is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister who led the First Unitarian Society of Madison, Wisconsin for thirty years and guided the congregation through two major restoration projects for the National Landmark Frank Lloyd Wright designed Unitarian Meeting House. During his tenure, membership tripled and the humanist-oriented Society became one of the denomination's largest and most noteworthy. Schuler earned degrees in political science (Eckerd College), Divinity (Starr King School for the Ministry) and the Humanities (Ph.d., Florida State University). He also served churches in Sioux City, Iowa and Binghamton, New York, and has conducted regional and national workshops on church growth, spiritual practice, ethical eating, sustainability and humanism. He is the author of "Making the Good Life Last: Four Keys to Sustainable living" (2009) and "Humanism: In Command or in Crisis?" (2023). He and his wife, Trina, recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Their son Kyle is a visual artist and team manager for a software company.
