Born in Cardiff, Wales, but now residing in Victoria BC, David is a professional lovespoon carver who continually endeavors to expand the artistic boundaries of this traditional craf.
A graduate of the University of British Columbia, David quickly realized a career in education was not for him and re-trained in cabinetmaking at the both the London College of Furniture and through the Canadian Red Seal program in joinery. After spending many years building furniture and commercial millwork David finally allowed his favourite hobby of lovespoon carving become his full-time obsession and life’s work.
David currently has three books published with Fox Chapel Publishing: The Fine Art of Carving Lovespoons (2008), History of Lovespoons (2012), and The Great Book of Spooncarving Patterns (2021)
With 30+ years of serious study and carving behind him, David finally feels like he is starting to get to grips with this intriguing and chronically misunderstood tradition.
When not lovespooning, Dave likes to pick blackberries, mess around with guitars and play old vinyl far too loud.
